Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by her mother, her grandmother and godparents. Her father left her family. As a young girl, Catherine Ford struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word association. Ford became interested in acting during her teenage years and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't suitable for her. Ford later applied to be a student in the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993 but at the time she already had made her TV debut on a 1991 episode from Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedies, which were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
